Retirement of CAEL (Paper Edition)
Since Paragon Testing Enterprises acquired CAEL (Paper Edition) in June 2015 from Carleton University, we have been reviewing all aspects of the test. In September 2017, we launched CAEL CE (Computer Edition) so that CAEL can be securely administered both in Canada and internationally to large numbers of test takers.
Paragon has substantially modernized CAEL (Paper Edition) with CAEL CE. We have built a strong testing framework and have the knowledge and experience to maintain and strengthen this test into the future. With that said, we have decided to focus our efforts on developing CAEL CE and will retire the administration CAEL (Paper Edition) at all our existing test centres on August 31, 2018.
CAEL (Paper Edition) will still be available to the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs at Canadian universities and colleges. Please contact info@cael.ca for more information.

Over 180 universities and colleges across Canada accept the results of CAEL CE for admission to their academic programs.
- Fully computer-delivered
All components (Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing) of CAEL CE are fully administered by computer. All test components are completed in one sitting, and there are no additional Speaking interviews administered by human examiners.

The test includes activities that you will engage in during your Canadian post-secondary studies. The topics and tasks are taken from first-year university and college courses.
- Developed by experts in Canada
CAEL CE was developed by a team of assessment professionals at Paragon Testing Enterprises, composed of individuals with backgrounds in applied linguistics, education, statistics, and psychometrics.
