Instructor Training: Level 1 is a self-directed recorded session taught by a CAEL expert. The training takes roughly 5-6 hours and can be done at your own pace. It consists of a series of videos covering test features and format, as well as comprehension quizzes to test your understanding.

Format:

• A recorded session taught by a CAEL Expert
• Comprehension quizzes with explanations of answers
• Ability to complete the training at one’s convenience

Topics include:

• Overview of the CAEL Test
• Thorough description of every question type 
• Skills and strategies for test takers
• Insight into productive skills scoring criteria
• CAEL instructional products for test takers
• Resources for teachers
• Analysis of sample Writing and Speaking responses

• This course is designed for experienced instructors.  Applicants must have at least one year of teaching experience.

Please note that the recorded training program will become available in your CAEL account on the training dates specified above.  Participants must fully complete the recorded training program within 10 days of the start date in order to be eligible for a certificate of completion and to receive a PDF Instructor Training Manual.

Participants must create a CAEL account prior to the training date selected.

Instructors must have a certificate of completion for CAEL Instructor Training: Level 1 before registering for Level 2.

Cost: Free

This self-directed, text-based online course takes about 10-12 hours to complete. It has been designed for experienced teachers with advanced English fluency and a firm grasp of the structure and content of the CAEL Test. Each task assessed in the CAEL Test is explored in detail, with suggested strategies for instructors and test takers. Quizzes and interactive exercises throughout the course help teachers gauge their progress. A certificate of completion will be provided to those who complete all of the material.

• Common challenges related to taking tests and learning academic English, and strategies for overcoming them
• Time management and key strategies for all CAEL tasks
• Suggested approaches for Reading and Listening tasks
• Using source material for integrated Speaking and Writing tasks
• Building a strong vocabulary and using academic English
• Using the Speaking and Writing checklists for peer and instructor assessment
• Speaking and Writing response analysis
• Suggested activities for CAEL prep courses
• Pedagogical resources for EAP instructors and language learning resources for advanced English learners

Upcoming Instructor Training: Level 2 Dates

Please note that the recorded training program will become available in your CAEL account on the training dates specified above. While you can work at your own pace, we will conduct a completion check 3 weeks after your start date. A certificate of completion will be issued to instructors who have worked through all of the module content and achieved 100% on each quiz.
